Family & Child Practitioner (Accredited Mental Health Social Worker)

The Family & Child Practitioner (F&CP) is a registered provider with Medicare as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.

The F&CP is qualified to provide focused psychological strategies to children, adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression,  emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The  clinical practice integrates a therapeutic approach that draws on neuroscience, attachment and developmental research.

The attachment-based, trauma-informed family therapeutic framework:

  • Integrates caregiver/parenting education based on Circle of Security-Parenting and Triple P - Positive Parenting Programs which provides behaviour management,  emotional co- and self regulation strategies

  • Promotes infant, child and adolescent mental health counselling using CBT and mindfulness, which also aims to reinforce sensitive responsive relationships with safe and available adult caregivers

  •  Supports therapeutic interventions enabling self awareness, improved communication e.g. emotional language, decreased stress and reactivity, and increased relational enjoyment between children and parents/caregivers

  • Values a commitment to collaborating with the Care Team supporting the child and their family's well-being

  •  Explores flexibility in providing service delivery in clinic, at home visits, or alternative safe and respectful locations in the community which help the child and their family feel safe

  •  Values collaboration with significant adult others to scaffold infant,  child and youth mental health and development

At Home On A Hill, we value the child and the caregiver's mental health and well- being within their unique family  journey.

The F&CP is committed to being respectful to culturally and linguistically diverse ways of caregiving.

We aim to collaborate with Indigenous families and communities exploring  cultural ways to promote social emotional well-being; Our intention is not to 'do therapy to' any person, but to walk alongside the other and be guided by them with consent and respect.

We wish to sensitively acknowledge the impact of intergenerational trauma in families including the respectful acknowledgement of the ongoing effect of the Stolen Generation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities today.
